Turn a sale estimate into a purchase limit
Use this worksheet before buying a broken device to repair and resell. Start with a repaired sale estimate from your current save, then reserve money for parts, other costs, and the profit you want to keep. The remainder is the most you can pay under those assumptions.
Maximum purchase price = repaired sale estimate − replacement parts − other costs − minimum profit. The conservative case also subtracts an extra repair allowance and uses your lower sale estimate. This is a budgeting formula, not ReStory's internal valuation formula.
The original calculator answers which path is better after entering a purchase price. This worksheet answers an earlier question: what purchase price would still meet my target?
Worked example: positive profit can still miss your target
The invented example uses a ¥5,000 expected sale, ¥900 in parts, ¥300 in other costs, and an ¥800 profit target. That leaves a ¥3,000 maximum purchase price. At a ¥2,000 listing price, expected profit is ¥1,800.
Now lower the sale to ¥4,200 and allow another ¥600 for a surprise repair. The purchase ceiling falls to ¥1,600. Buying at ¥2,000 still leaves ¥400 profit, but misses the ¥800 target by ¥400. A green-looking profit alone would hide that shortfall.
These amounts demonstrate arithmetic only. They are not observed prices for an Atari, Autorola Razor, or any other device. Reset example restores them; edits do not change the written example.
What to enter, and what to leave out
Use zero for fees or supplies that do not apply to your job. If a tool or license must be purchased solely for this job, include that extra cash requirement in your planning; do not silently spread it across sales that have not happened.
Do not put a customer repair payout in the resale field. A known-payout job and a device you buy to resell have different cost paths. Likewise, a donor's reusable inventory value belongs in the donor worksheet, not in sale revenue.
A negative ceiling means even a free device would miss the chosen target. A zero ceiling means only a free device meets it. A listing within the ceiling can still be unsuitable if its condition is unknown or it consumes cash needed for current work.

The official Steam description confirms repair work and spare-parts shopping. It does not establish the prices used in this worksheet. Source checked October 14, 2026; all calculations here use your inputs and our published budgeting method.
Recheck your estimates when your save or game version changes. The older demo observations on the data page are labeled separately and are not loaded into this worksheet.
